Thomas John Varney

Thomas John Varney passed away at age of 76 on December 14, 2023, in Wauwatosa, WI. Tom was born in Marshfield, WI, on March 24, 1947, to Emery and Jeanette Varney. Tom’s parents preceded him in death.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, June Varney (Baake); sister, Mary Fisher (nee Varney) (Robert); their children, Christopher Fischer and Lexi Grayvold (nee Fischer) (Brady); stepson, Shawn Friedeck and Tammy Ritzman; grandson, Cody Ritzman; special daughter, Amy Barth (nee Jones) (Dan Simion); and grandsons, Josh Barth (often Tom’s traveling partner) and Alec Simion.   

Tom was a 38 year veteran of WE Energies and enjoyed his work there very much. After retirement, Tom’s main avocation was traveling, making it to 120 National parks and monuments. Tom and wife, June, also made it to 75 countries around the world. Tom enjoyed family, birding, genealogy, fine wine, and food.  

Tom was a co-founder of the “The Winos” – a group of close friends who shared many delicious meals, fantastic wine, and entertaining adventures together. A favorite wine of Tom’s was Silver Oak.
