Michael J. Lavin, age 71, of Des Plaines, IL, passed away on March 19, 2024, after a short illness and surrounded by family. He was born on March 23, 1952, to the late Martin W. and Margaret (Gray) Lavin.
Mike was born in Chicago, IL, in the Austin District. He joined the US Army at the age of 18, he earned medals and went on to graduate from Illinois State University with a master’s in chemistry. Mike was employed by several top chemical companies and was a well-respected chemist, he spent his entire career acquiring vast knowledge of advanced chemistry.
Survivors include his beloved brother, John Lavin and his wife, Bonni-Lynne of Massachusetts; sister-in-law, Catalina; and he was a loving uncle to several nephews and a niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents and dear brother, Richard Martin Lavin, and sweet sister, Maureen Lavin Head.
Mike will be remembered as a warm soul, reserved yet amazingly brilliant. He loved to converse with people about current events. An avid reader with instant recall of every book he ever read … Definitely, the person to have on your team in a trivial pursuit game.
Mike will be forever remembered for his eccentric, unique, and generous ways. He will be missed for his many stories that he loved to share about the world and his own life, a rich tapestry of experiences that made him special to those who knew him. May God bless and rest his soul.
A celebration of life will be held in June.
