Melvin James Stewart I

Melvin Stewart, age 71, transitioned peacefully on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. Melvin was born November 20, 1952, preceded in death by both parents, Leotis Stewart and Booker T. Stewart.

Melvin had the gift of ‘gab’ and was an eloquent story-teller.

Melvin was raised in Maywood, Illinois, with four siblings: his loving baby sister, Anita Stewart Zimmerman; preceded in death by his siblings: Nina Stewart Reed, Floyd Stewart, and Anthony ‘Red’ Stewart. Melvin is survived by 6 children, that are affectionately known as ‘The Stewart Kids’: Delilah Stewart Allison (Roy), Lythia Stewart, Tanisha Stewart, Melvin James Stewart II (Lisa), Tanissha Pickett Douglas (Paul), Deon English (preceded in death), and Kevyn Stewart. Melvin is further survived by 26 grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
