Matthew Allan Scruggs

September 22, 1982 — May 15, 2020

Milwaukee – On Friday May 15th Matthew Allan Scruggs completed his journey through this life. Although his precious time with us was but 37 years, he left an indelible mark on those he touched. He was born in Washington DC on September 22, 1982, the son of Donald Wayne and Mary Charlotte (Bowers) Scruggs. Matthew was preceded in death by grandparents Stanleigh & Virginia Bowers, Donald Scruggs Sr., Glenn & Joanne Brown, William & Grace Pierce and an uncle, Skippy Bowers. He is survived by his parents Mary (Bowers) Criscuolo and Donald Scruggs, one brother James White Jr. and one sister Leighan Bowers. He is also survived by a stepmother Lizzi Brown, uncles Allie Bowers & Hoss Brown, aunts Julia Kempe, Alex Bowers & Maria Brown, his muse Catie Pawlak, and cousins Richard, Melissa, Allison, Glenn, Erin & Noelle. Matthew grew up in suburban Maryland, graduated from Northwestern High School and attended Frostburg State University. He was active in Boy Scouts, attending the National Jamboree and attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. As he traveled through life, he left his mark on Joplin MO, Pahrump NV, Yreka CA, and finally Milwaukee. He was looking forward to spending time with his girlfriend Chelle. The moment that he talked about most was finally attending a game at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. Matthew had an incredible laugh, a dry sense of humor and a loving heart. He was a true joy to know. He believed that Mother Earth was the center and source of life. He believed that the spirit of a person communed with the energy of the earth and that the body was but a temporary vessel housing the spirit. He is now free of that vessel and a part of that energy. Rest in peace Matthew, you are loved by your friends and your family and will be missed. No funeral services will be scheduled at this time due to the current pandemic. An online memorial service will be arranged later. Matthew’s ashes will be returned home and then portions returned to the Earth, the Air, to Fire, and the Water.
