Schroeder, Marlene Lydia (nee Kallas) July 30, 1931 - June 13, 2012 Marlene was born to eternal life after a 50 year battle with debilitating mental illness, suffering from medical complications of the long term use of her treatment medications. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents John Kallas 1897-1961, Lydia Kallas (nee Wegner)1898-1963, and her former husband Richard L. Schroeder 1931-2005 Marlene is survived by her 4 daughters: Jeryll (Bill) Bushman, Holly (Redoune) Benazarga, Christine (Bob) Cossens, and Virginia (Mark) Malinowski. 5 Grandchildren: Lisa (Steven) Kay, Aaron, Emily, and Ian Malinowski, and Yasmina Benazarga. Marlene had 1 Great Grandchild, Evan Kay. Marlene lived at least 70 plus years at 2061 South 24th St. in Milwaukee, WI. This house was built by her grandparents, August Wegner 1869-1944 and Wilamina Wegner 1868-1948 in 1913. Marlene went to Grant St. Elementary School, Walker Jr. and Pulaski Sr. High Schools, graduating in 1949. Marlene was the Homecoming Queen for both Pulaski and Boy's Tech. High Schools. Marlene married her Neighbor and High School Sweetheart, Richard L. Schroeder in 1950. Marlene professionally modeled in the Milwaukee Area in the 1950's and early 1960's, until Mental illness over shadowed her the rest of her life. The family would like to thank all the people who helped Marlene through her long life. This includes in no order of magnitude: The Milwaukee County Mental Heath Complex Staff. Their great efforts are always under-appreciated and usually overlooked. Especially helpful were Dr. Nagwa Agaiby, and Dr. Tom Harding. Froedtert Hospital, along with Dr. Geoffrey Lamb and Dr. Janet Osborn who assisted Marlene when other hospitals did not. The Zilber Family Hospice - Aurora of Wauwatosa, WI and their kind and compassionate staff. The Staff and residents at the Poplar House Group Home. The Staff and residents at Lake Point Manor Group Home. The Staff at Project Access and especially Kari Zorg, Michelle Lee, and Tom Schaffer. The Milwaukee County Probate Court. Especially Court Commissioners Rosemary Thornton, Patrice Baker, and Richard Baker. The Milwaukee County Corporation Counsel. Especially Atty. Richard Bressler. The Legal Aid Society and Marlene's Atty. Karen Kotecki. The Milwaukee Police Department. For their kindness, compassion and caring when Marlene was in crisis and treatment resistant. The Milwaukee County Sheriff Department for assisting the family in getting the treatment Marlene so desperately needed at times of crisis and treatment resistant. The Face Book Friends for their support and prayers for Marlene and her Family. There will be no funeral and Marlene's remains will be interred in a private ceremony with her former husband Richard, at Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield, WI. These remains will be placed in the Garden of Eternal Life, Crypt 967A, at Marlene's request. In lieu of a Memorial, please remember Marlene and others with Mental Illness with kindness and understanding when suffering from this challenge. Also please remember that Mental Illness is not caused by a character flaws or poor up bring, but by neurobiology. Marlene lost herself, but we always knew where she was...
