Marko Michael Gerovac, Sr., aged 74, passed away on August 19, 2024, in Franklin, Wisconsin, after battling an aggressive form of prostate cancer. Marko died as he lived - with unspoken strength and resiliency.
Marko was born on July 12, 1950, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and graduated from Franklin High School in 1968. He subsequently went on to own and operate several small recycling and demolition businesses including his most recent, Gerovac Wrecking LLC, in which he worked side by side everyday with his son, Marko II. Marko prided himself on working hard and never taking shortcuts. If the Gerovac name was on it, it had to be perfect.
He spent his life dedicated to his work and family. He is survived by his three children: Marko (Ellen) Gerovac II, Tiffany (Josh) Glazer (née Gerovac), and Brittany (Rob Szymanski) Gerovac. He was a proud Grandpa Gee to eight grandchildren: Gemma, Tessa, Maevyn, Reuben, Makaely, Zinnia, Avery, and Tilia.
He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas F. Gerovac, and mother, Sophie S. Gerovac (née Misiewicz); older brother, Stevie Gerovac; and younger brother, Thomas M. Gerovac.
A special thank you to all the close family, friends, and business associates, especially Karen Krieser, who went above and beyond with much kindness and support the last two years. To Dr. Ariel Nelson, Kristin APNP, Liz RN, and Karen RN: thank you for helping Marko live his life to the fullest up to the very end. To Pam Gerovac: “we did good.”
A “Celebration of Life” for Marko will be held at the Polish Center of Wisconsin, located at 6941 S. 68th St, Franklin, WI, on Friday, September 13th, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The event is casual, is open to attendees of all ages, and will feature appetizers and drinks.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Special Olympics, honoring Marko’s lifelong support for his brother, Stevie.
He will be remembered by his eyes, smile, and laugh, which was incredibly contagious. They will resound in our hearts and memories.
