Margaret Elaine Stalheim passed away on August 17, 2022, at the age of 94. Born on May 6, 1928, she grew up in Harford, WI. She was the “only child” in a family of three (parents Ben and Rae Favour). After marrying Phil Stalheim in 1949, she had three sons – Scott (Peg), Kevin, David (Celia), three grandchildren – Kyrsten (Ketil), Megan (Krystal), Ben and three great grandchildren (Frida, Tomas, Bahati).
Elaine – she went by her middle name, went to college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she met her husband and received a teaching degree. Kids and education were a passion for Elaine. She taught elementary school in the Milwaukee Public School system, and while raising three children, got her Master’s degree in school administration from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Elaine then went on to become a principal in Milwaukee, relishing her role in nurturing teachers and children to learn. After retiring, she taught at Alverno College and continued her own education auditing classes at UW-Milwaukee.
Elaine enjoyed traveling. She visited all the national parks and every continent. She snorkeled in Antarctica and kissed the Blarney Stone in Ireland. She often reminded friends and family of her Irish heritage, despite the fact that she married a Norwegian who loved lutefisk, lefse and meatballs during the holidays. Elaine loved knitting sweaters, hats and toys for family and friends. She also loved chocolate – Kopp’s Frozen Custard and truffles were her favorites. She enjoyed the ice cream and deserts made at St. John’s on the Lake. It brought a smile to her face. Elaine was a supporter of and had a great passion for music and the arts
A private family celebration of life will be held on October 9.
