Lee R. Vance, 86, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Born on December 25, 1939, in Berwyn, IL, Lee was the son of Russell and Irma Vance. After his father passed away in 1952, he moved to a family farm in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, to be with his uncle Harold and aunt Jean Vance. There, he developed his strong work ethic and love for animals. While in Florida, Lee graduated from DeFuniak Springs High School and served in the Army National Guard. He then moved back to the Chicago area where he had a long career working on the South Water Market.

In 1959, he married the love of his life, Karen (Biewer), and settled in Yorkfield (Elmhurst), Illinois. Together they raised three sons: Scott, Gary, and Mark. Warm and welcoming, Lee and Karen invited family, friends, and neighbors alike into their lives and the home they enjoyed for more than 50 years.

Lee spent many years as a trustee and volunteer firefighter for the Yorkfield Fire Department where he reached the rank of Assistant Chief. Later, he spent several years as a volunteer firefighter with the Elmhurst Fire Department. In retirement, Lee joyfully gave his time, attention, and love to family, friends, neighbors, and pets. An avid reader with a curious mind and a generous spirit, Lee was always ready with an open door, a kind word, and a helpful hand.

Lee was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karen; his uncle, Harold, and aunt, Jean; his sister, Lois Ralston (Roy Stringham); and his parents, Russell and Irma. Lee will be deeply missed by his children: Scott (Michelle) Vance, Gary (Lori) Vance, and Mark (Penny) Vance; his grandchildren: Cody, David, Catherine (Cody), Nicole, Amy, Robert (Minttu), Sarah (John), Jacob, Andrew (Anna), Grayson, and John; his dear great-granddaughter, Ella; and countless friends.
