Kevin Mark Koenigs

March 21, 1950 — February 4, 2014

Kevin Mark Koenigs died of cancer, and complications from cancer, midday February 4th, 2014, at the age of 63.He passed quickly, quietly, with dignity, without pain, and at home, as was his wish. His wife and partner of 35 years, Marsha McDonald, was by his side.He is survived by his brother Keith (Gloria) Koenigs, sisters-in law Paula (Kevin Cooper) McDonald, Mary (Damon) Marino, Maureen (Franklyn) Marino, many nieces and nephews, and beloved friends. He loved his wife, family, and friends, Dostoyevsky, Flaubert, the Ancient Greeks, his many, many students over the years, hardbop jazz, art, traveling, writing, and cats. A passionate teacher both here and abroad (South Korea), and published author (2011 Tenot Foundation Residency Award, France), he until very recently taught at the ELS Center on the Marquette University campus, and in the newly established ESL Program at MSOE. As a man who chose to live a full life and was gifted with a good death, it is his request that those who wish to honor his memory should endeavor to do, and to be given, the same. A celebration of his life is planned for Saturday, February 8th, at his Milwaukee home, from 12 - 4.
