Joseph James Lasky passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025, at the age of 86.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Barbara (née Drake) Lasky; daughters Mary Ann Lasky (Andrew Rash), and Sarah (Lucian) McAfee; grandchildren Abigail Rash, Kyle McAfee, Claire McAfee and Spencer McAfee-Gundrum; sister Joanne (M.C.) Moore; and many extended family members who loved him dearly. Preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Anna Lasky.
A lifelong resident of Rockford, IL, Joe attended East High School and worked at Amerock Hardware for more than 40 years.
Joe’s greatest joy in life was his family, and he loved them with all his heart. He and Barbara shared a true partnership—devoted to one another and to the life they built together. He enthusiastically supported his daughters’ many pursuits ‒ from school, to sports, to careers, to hobbies ‒ he always encouraged and believed in them. As Papa to his grandchildren, he was playful, patient and attentive. Known for his lovingly teasing nature, the kids had many laughs with their Papa.
Joe had an easy way with people and made friends wherever he went. He was a great friend, neighbor, customer, patient, and all around good guy. If he crossed paths with you, he gave you a smile, kind words, and probably a few jokes, too.
In his rare moments of spare time, Joe enjoyed gardening, jogging, walking the family’s dogs, and home and car projects.
Joe will be deeply missed by all who knew him. To honor his memory, the family asks that donations be made to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund at https://curealz.org/giving/donate/
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
