Janet Bernice (nee: Smith) Monday of South Milwaukee passed away peacefully on December 22, 2021 at the age of 77. She was born in Milwaukee to Bernice (nee: DeBuhr) and John Smith on November 2, 1944. She was baptized and confirmed at Calvary Presbyterian Church where her deep faith was formed.
She graduated from Washington High School in 1962 and attended Sterling College. After marriage, she focused on family life. She supported her children’s interests with the help of her parents and was dedicated to her parents’ care as they aged.
Anyone who talked with Janet heard much about her family. She was engaging and had a great sense of humor. Her family was very close and enjoyed frequent visits and phone calls. She kept up with news of their day-to-day lives, including: sports and home repairs, school and work, pets, movies and books, and current events. She was much loved and will be dearly missed. She was a devoted grandmother who found ways to make her granddaughters feel special. She listened carefully to stories, found ways to share interests, and was able to understand in ways all her own.
Janet was the beloved mother of Julie (Sally Nuciforo) Hunley and John (Michelle) Hunley; grandmother of Gabriela Hunley and Jordan Voigt; step-grandmother of Delynn Daniels and Tamia Jones; sister of Joanne (Ronald) James; and aunt of Peter (Amy) James, Tony (Daphne) James, and Sarah James. She was the life-long friend of Lynn Butenhoff and was embraced by the extended Nuciforo family.
She was preceded in death by her deeply devoted parents, Bernice and John Smith.
A memorial service is planned on January 23rd at 2 p.m. at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 935 W Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Calvary Presbyterian Church, the Milwaukee Humane Society, or the charity of your choice.
