James Richard Batt, age 67, passed away on September 13, 2020. Jim was born on October 5, 1952, in Milwaukee, the beloved son of Lester J. and Gladys E. Batt (Risberg). He is now reunited with them in heaven.
Jim, a child of God, was baptized and confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. He was a 1970 graduate of Washington High School and lived in the Milwaukee area his entire life. At a young age, Jim developed an interest in cars, undoubtedly from going to the Auto Show every year with his father. Jim could identify automobile makes, models and ages, on sight. He was mechanically inclined and adept at repairing everything on cars from changing oil to fixing brakes to body work. He also enjoyed driving vehicles and was always mindful of safety.
Jim was a very private person and intensely independent. He was always willing to help anyone, including moving another’s belongings, mowing grass, repairing autos and opening his home to friends and those in need. Jim had no interest in fashion or technology, but he loved the outdoors, cook outs, the State Fair, dining out and all sports, especially playing golf and watching the Brewers and Packers.
Jim retired after many years with the Milwaukee County Transit System. In retirement, he enjoyed investing in the stock market and meeting all the challenges of home ownership. Jim always found time for family and friends who will miss him immensely.
Jim is survived by his sister, Mary Batt, brother Douglas E. Batt, aunts, cousins and many friends, who will cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
Due to Covid-19, private services were held. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held when it is safe. Jim will be laid to rest next to his parents, Lester J. and Gladys E. Batt, at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Milwaukee.
