James “Jim” Herbst, 74, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026.

Jim was born on December 11, 1951. On August 11, 1972, he married the love of his life, Kim Herbst, beginning a marriage that spanned more than five decades filled with love, family, and shared memories.

Jim worked as a painting contractor for many years and was known for his strong work ethic and the pride he took in his craft. He had a remarkable ability to fix just about anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends.

Outside of work, Jim enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved spending time hunting, riding his Harley, and getting lost in a good book—especially novels by James Patterson and William Johnstone. Some of his favorite places were what he called his “happy place,” the Taj Mahal in Wisconsin Dells, and the beautiful, warm, sunny island of Roatan, Honduras.

Above all, Jim treasured his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a loving grandfather who enjoyed time spent with those closest to him.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Kim Herbst; his daughters, Nicole Baraniak (Bryan) and Kari Borlen; his cherished grandchildren, Kamdyn and Ryder Borlen; and his siblings: John Herbst, Mary Wittig, Joe Herbst, and Margaret Witkowski.

The Funeral Service will be held on April 15, 2026, at St. Gabriel's Parish located at 1200 St Gabriel Way, Hubertus, WI 53033. The Visitation will take place from 10AM - 12PM and the Service will follow at 12PM.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
