Beloved brother of MaryCarol Boemmel Liethen (Matt Liethen), Jennifer Boemmel (John Hagen) and Mathew Boemmel (Tracy Boemmel); Fond Uncle of Lucy, Mathew & Evelyn Boemmel and Katie & Maggie Liethen: Beloved Cousin & Nephew to many. Preceded in death by his parents Mathew John & Carol Daugherty Boemmel and grandparents Mathias & Mary Boemmel and Edward & Gertrude Daugherty. Jim was the proud owner/operator of Windy City Charters out of DuSable Harbor in Chicago, where he used his dry wit and extensive knowledge of Chicago to create entertaining and memorable experiences on numerous charter excursions. A car aficionado, he collected Karma Ghias his entire adult life. Jim spent many years in the investments industry where his devotion and care to his customers resulted in lifelong friendships. Jim spent his later years caring for his mother in Milwaukee and battling debilitating illnesses himself. During his treatments for Stage 5 kidney disease, he was diagnosed with the fatal disease calciphylaxis. Jim’s dying wish was to contribute to research into this disease. His family was able to fulfill this wish with an anatomical donation to a research study at Massachusetts General in Boston. Jim provided humor, compassion and kindness to many throughout his lifetime. Despite the overwhelming grief we feel at his passing, we are truly thankful that Jim is finished with the tremendous pain and suffering he endured.

Also to fulfill his wishes, formal funeral services will not be held. The family is planning a Celebration of Life event to be held later this year. Jim’s family gratefully encourages donations to American Kidney Fund, American Diabetes Association and Massachusetts General Hospital – Department of Medicine Nephrology to help other families battle these diseases.
