Gerald Walter
Heck
May 16, 1935 – May 20, 2026
Cahill Park Warming House
10:00 am - 1:00 pm (Central time)
Born on May 16, 1935, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Lester and Mildred (Leuders) Heck. Gerry lived a life defined by passion, curiosity, and unwavering devotion to the people he loved. He spent most of his free time at the tennis court, perfecting his swing, or browsing magazines and books for the latest techniques at Barnes & Noble (which included a cookie or two). Tennis was a joy he loved to share, but his greatest love was his family.
Gerry was a devoted husband, an extraordinary father, and a proud grandfather. He was a constant, cheering presence in the bleachers, known for attending nearly every sporting event his children and grandchildren participated in. His encouragement was steady and unforgettable.
When he wasn’t on the court or cheering from the sidelines, Gerry delighted in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed tackling the New York Times crosswords, playing classical guitar, listening to the Beatles, and savoring a good cup of hot chocolate. He had a particular fondness for dessert—especially ice cream, a treat he never once turned down.
Gerry is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Kathleen, and by his five children and their spouses: David Heck and Heather Horst; Carolyn and Robert Van Nelson; Sarah and William Steiniger; Bethany and Kevin Thiel; and Andrew Heck and Yuliia Skliarova. His grandchildren include Zachary Heck Horst; Alexander and Nikolas Van Nelson; Griffin and Heidi Steiniger; Jackson (Gabriella Morice), Vivian, Benjamin, and Truman Lazovik; and Danylo Heck.
He is also survived by his sister, Marjorie Kreienbrink; his brother‑in‑law, Richard Frey; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Mildred; his father‑ and mother‑in‑law, Leslie and Elenor Frey; his sister, Diane and brother‑in‑law, Dave Current; his brother‑in‑law, Gene Kreienbrink; and his sister‑in‑law, Patricia Frey.
A celebration of Gerry’s life will be held on June 27th from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Cahill Park Warming House, 1001 E Fairmount Ave, Whitefish Bay. Family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, celebrate his legacy, and enjoy a bowl of ice cream in his honor.
In lieu of flowers or formal tributes, please take a quiet moment to remember your best memories with this gentle and loving man.
