Obituary

Doris Norton Cigliana, 94, of Milwaukee, died peacefully March 2, 2026.

Born January 23, 1932, in Henry County, Kentucky, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elroy “Roy” Cigliana (2005); an infant child (1957); her parents; three brothers; two sisters; and her beloved granddog, Twister.

A graduate of Henry County High School, she attended Fugazzi School of Business in Lexington — charting her own path at a time when such ambition was uncommon for women in her community. She married Roy in 1955, and together they built a life across the country before settling in Milwaukee.

She loved Milwaukee’s Washington Heights neighborhood, especially Washington Boulevard. Proud of her Kentucky roots, she never missed the Kentucky Derby, enjoying the hats, a good mint julep, and often choosing her favorite horse simply by name.

She worked in administrative roles at Wauwatosa Presbyterian Church, Manpower, Koehring Crane, Huber Brewing, and Whalen Moving, and volunteered at local grade schools where her son Jerry taught second grade, helping children master math facts and spelling words.

Known for her steady presence, practical wisdom, quiet strength, and unmistakable Southern twang, she insisted her hair be done, lipstick applied, and earrings in place before facing the day. She believed deeply in fairness, equal rights, and public education, leading by example.

She is survived by her children, Lisa Cigliana of Seattle; Doug Cigliana of Milwaukee; and Jerry Cigliana of Milwaukee.

Private services will be held.

The family wishes to thank Doris’ long time friend June Skokan for her friendship and support. As well as Lynn Jarzemsky as a caregiver and family friend.

Recognition to the team at Hart Park Square who provided a safe living environment for 9 years. And the team at The Lutheran Home for making her final 2 years very comfortable.

When admiring the beauty around her, she would smile and say, “God has a great design department.”
