Donald Henry Gregor has “Let Go & Let God.”
Born in 1939 in Chicago, Illinois, to Henry and Marie Gregor, Don spent his early years enjoying the Riverside Amusement Park and classic Chicago hot dogs. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in graphic design—an education that would shape his unique eye and colorful personality throughout his life.
After college, Don proudly served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in the South Pacific, and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He later brought his talents to Western Publishing in Racine, Wisconsin, and eventually shared his passion for the arts and communication as an educator at Columbia College Chicago.
Don had a deep love for his city and was especially proud to be a docent with the Chicago Architecture Foundation, sharing the beauty and history of Chicago with others. He also found meaning and community with many dear friends of Bill in Chicago, Oak Park, and Springfield, Illinois.
A true renaissance man, Don was artistic, curious, and always up for an adventure. He enjoyed the theater, Broadway musicals, photography, woodworking, furniture-making, decorating, and collecting cultural items from around the globe. A cosmopolitan soul, Don approached life with both wonder and wisdom.
He is survived by his son, Brian Gregor (Jackie); daughter, Susan Vanderlinden (Jesse); four wonderful grandchildren, Liam, Colin, Jacob, and Lily; his brother, Robert Gregor (Nancy); his former wife, Kay; and several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his sister, Dolores (Ken) Andrew.
In his final year, Don was able to live closer to family in Milwaukee, surrounded by love and care.
A private family service is planned.
