Dennis James Moeller passed on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at home surrounded by family. Dennis is survived by his wife, Roberta (Johnson) Moeller and his two girls, Jennifer Moeller and Emily (William Prom) Moeller-Prom. He was the loving grandpa of Hadley and Henry Prom and adoring dog-grandpa to Luka.
Dennis was born on March 19, 1951 in Milwaukee, Wis. to William and Vivian (Schoensee) Moeller. Dennis loved growing up in Wisconsin and spending time with his parents and brother, David, at the family cottage on Potter Lake.
Dennis attended Hamilton High School and loved being a part of the swim team in high school and college. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s in business administration. He worked as a CPA for 12 years before taking on his own accounting practice, which he ran successfully for over 30 years. For 12 of those years, Jennifer worked alongside her dad, learning so much about accounting from him.
Dennis was a huge fan of travel. He became a pilot and enjoyed flying his own plane. He loved exploring the country with his family and took Bobbie and the girls on many road trips. As their children grew, Dennis and Bobbie continued to take every vacation with the girls—except, now they drove to college swim meets and followed solar car races across the country. When grandkids came, Dennis and Bobbie traveled with them too. Dennis shared his love of trains with the grandkids, taking many trips to train museums and even bringing them home for one Christmas with a cross-country train ride.
He was a dedicated Christian Science church member and was very committed to feeling the presence of God in his life. He never met a dog he didn’t like. Dennis empowered those around him – whether that meant helping a sister-in-law to replace a headlight on their car, teaching his daughters to change a tire, or handing out smiley face stickers to clients when they did something right in their company books. He enjoyed turning strangers into friends (from new clients to IRS auditors). He always said he could turn anyone into an accountant.
Dennis continually said he would never retire, but he did achieve his dream of living on Potter Lake for the last 12 years. He and Bobbie enjoyed lake life. They shared lots of fun days in the water and relaxing sunset pontoon boat rides with friends and family.
We will think of Dennis any time we hear a train whistle, take a boat ride, or see a Cadillac Deville drive down the road. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him.
He was never a fan of memorial services or funerals and requested not to have one. There will be a private family celebration of his life in July to share pictures and stories about him. Anyone who knew Dennis, knows he loved to tell stories. In lieu of donations or flowers, please share your stories of Dennis by either commenting on this post or emailing jenny@dennisjmoeller.com.
