Dennis Alan Berg, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, died on October 23, 2026, at the age of 75.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 49 years, Paula; daughter, Anna (Ramon) Hernandez; son, Benjamin (Katelynd) Berg; and grandchildren, Evelyn, Charles, Finnegan, and Henry. He is also survived by his siblings, John (Nancy) Berg, Elaine (Thomas) Schroedl, Brian Berg, and Karen (William) Monfre. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Irene Berg.
Born in Milwaukee, Dennis was a Nicolet High School alumnus and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1976. He spent his career working as a mainframe and COBOL developer. A natural problem solver from a young age—starting when he successfully repaired an antique slot machine as a boy—Dennis was a lifelong tinkerer who loved to fix things. He possessed a deep passion for American and European history, particularly prominent statesmen like his favorite, Benjamin Franklin, and loved aviation, often attending the annual EAA AirVenture airshow in Oshkosh.
Dennis had a true spirit of adventure and a lifelong passion for downhill skiing. After college, he took numerous canoeing and camping trips with friends to the Boundary Waters—a love for camping and being on the water that he continued throughout his life with his family. He spent many years recreationally sailing and racing on Lake Michigan, competing in distance events like the Queen's Cup, the Chicago to Mackinac Race, and the Hook Race. In retirement, he continued exploring the world alongside good friends.
Dennis was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always the favorite in any social group or gathering. He will be remembered for his warm, generous nature, gregarious spirit, and boundless energy. Always a steadfast helping hand to his family, friends, and any organization in need, he generously devoted his time to volunteering with the American Red Cross, Milwaukee Irish Fest, and the National Ski Patrol for over 20 years.
A celebration of life will be held at the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center, 1111 E. Brown Deer Rd., Milwaukee, WI 53217, on Sunday, December 13, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with immediate family tributes read at 5:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross.
“Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that's the stuff life is made of.”
