Denette Alice Smith

November 25, 1942 — May 25, 2024

Denette Alice Smith (nee Choinoski), 81, of West Allis, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25th, 2024, while in hospice. Denette was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Denis Walter and Alice Victoria Choinoski (nee Imanski) on November 25, 1942. She went to high school in Chicago, Illinois, and graduated in 1960 from St. Michaels Central High School. Denette was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Denette enjoyed bowling, playing BINGO, and making memories and new friends at the local spot- Candid Tap. She adored the handsome Elvis Presley and cheered for her hometown sports teams. Denette was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish & School.  Denette often shared her favorite memories of traveling to Hawaii with her husband, John for their honeymoon, however, the trip she was most fond of was going to Atlanta to cheer on the Marquette Golden Eagles Men's Basketball team when they reached the Final Four in 1977!

Denette is survived by her loving and devoted husband, John A. Smith, to whom she was married for sixty years.  She will be eternally remembered by her children; Michael Smith and Debra Smith, siblings; Robert Choinoski and Denise Biersteker, grandchildren; David (Jackie) Smith, KaSarah (Matt) Curry, and Jimmy (Amelia) Forsyth, and great grandchildren; Jaydien, Mayliah, Keegan, Kaiden, Kolton, and Rowan. In addition to other nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished long-time friends. Denette was preceded in death by her loving parents, Denis Walter Choinoski and Alice Victoria Choinoski and brother, Richard Choinoski.

Denette was a pillar of strength and a beacon of love; her absence will leave a void in all our hearts. We will never forget her warm smile, her big hugs, her funny jokes, and bubbly laugh. As per Denette’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held. The Smith Family invites friends, family, and others to privately celebrate Denette’s memory in a way that is meaningful to them.
