David Keane Rau passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
Born to Phillip and Jeannine (Johnson) Rau on Dec. 7, 1959, in Austin, Texas, David was the fourth of five children. He was the son of a U.S. Army Master Sergeant and a devoted stay-at-home mother and spent his childhood in Peshtigo, Wisconsin, and Columbus, Georgia. His family settled in Brookfield, Wisconsin, in 1969 after his father retired from the service.
David graduated from Brookfield East High School in 1977 and worked in the construction industry for many years.
David’s most important job began April 4, 1997, when his son Issiah was born. David loved being a father to Issiah, who was truly the center of his world. He coached Issiah in sports while he was growing up, which the two enjoyed together over the years, along with camping and many other interests.
David’s kind heart and deep faith have been critical over the last 19 years as he battled cancer. He was a fighter to the end.
David was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Teri and Colleen. He is survived by son, Issiah; brother, Michael (Shana); sister, Kathy Tutko; brothers-in-law, Mark Dirnbauer and Pat Tipler; as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, extended family members, friends, and members of his church.
Services for David will be held at 1 p.m., June 28th, at UNITY Lutheran Church — Christ the King campus located at 4600 Pilgrim Road in Brookfield.
David’s family and friends are welcome to attend a post-service gathering at Sussex Bowl from 3 to 7 p.m. to reminisce about a wonderful man who will not be forgotten.
