David John Kurczewski, Sr. passed away peacefully shortly before midnight on Monday, October 28, 2024.
David was born September 15, 1934 to Stella (Jaworski) and John Kurczewski in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated from Boys Technical and Trade School in 1952, where he ran varsity track and was a member of the National Honor Society. David was drafted into the US Army in 1957 and served most of his duty in Austria and France.
Upon his return from serving in the military in 1959, he met Sharon Schiefelbein, and they were married shortly after. Together they had four children. He spent his career as a proud member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers and worked on many landmark buildings throughout Milwaukee.
In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, raising dogs and trips to northern Wisconsin. As he got older he became interested in gardening and cooking. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He wasn’t a man who shared his feelings easily, but his love for his children was immeasurable.
Dave is survived by his children David (Danuta) Kurczewski, Jr., Jana (John) Chingway, Robert (Gloria) Kurczewski and Jill (Allan McFayden) Kurczewski; and eight grandchildren: John Kurczewski, Brandon Kurczewski, Jake Kurczewski (Jamie Fujinaka), Broderick Niesing, Anthony Kurczewski, Maya ( Lonnie) Garlock, Nathaniel Schroeter and Alex Schroeter. He is further survived by one brother, James (Eileen) Kurczewski. He was preceded in death by both parents, sisters Grace Waalen, Adeline Arenas, Judith Palok, and brother Philip Kurczewski.
The family will celebrate David’s life in a private memorial, to be announced at a later date.
