Carol M. Nilles

November 16, 1937 — September 24, 2023

New Berlin

Carol Mildred Nilles (nee Sell) completed her earthly journey on Sunday, September 24, 2023. In the week prior to her passing, she was surrounded by her children, whom she loved dearly. Carol was born on November 16, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, to her parents, George and Virginia Sell, who preceded her in death. Carol will also reunite in heaven with her husband, Richard Nilles Sr., whom she loved a “bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck”, and a Great Granddaughter, Charlotte Bax.

She is survived by her six children: Lawrence Wood (Bernadette) of St. John, IN, Mark Wood (Mary Ellen) of Gold Canyon, AZ, Daniel Wood of Murfreesboro, TN, Carol Edmonds (Scott) of St. Francis, WI, Donald Wood (Cherilynn) of Milwaukee, WI, and Richard Nilles Jr. (Jessica) of Mebane, NC. She is also survived by her brother, George Sell (Carole Anne) of Visalia, CA; and her sister, Lorna Haverland (Gary) of Bartow, FL.

Carol enjoyed her large family, especially her 11 Grandchildren, 24 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great Grandchildren. She had countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family that she loved being with. Christmas was her favorite time of year, filled with that large family, laughs, food, and decorations. Carol loved dogs, and always had one as part of the family (Boo, Rebel, CoCo, Bud, Bailey, Tuffy, and Rusty, to name a few).

She was a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend. She had a big personality and loved to laugh and talk about memories. She will be missed by everyone that knew her.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 11:00 am at Greenfield Park Lutheran Church located at 1236 S 115th St, West Allis, WI 53214. There will be a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that comparable donations be made to the Aurora Zilber Hospice in Wauwatosa, WI. The website for donation is secure.aahgiving.org, please select Zilber Family Hospice from the drop down menu. The doctors, nurses and staff are amazing people that do God’s work each and every day. The family thanks them for all the care, support and comfort they provided during Carol’s last days.

“If you get there before I do, don’t give up on me. I’ll meet you when my chores are through, I don’t know how long I’ll be. I’m not going to let you down, darling wait and see, and between now and then, until I see you again, I’ll be loving you. Love, Me”.
